Born out of the Block the Block campaign, where residents of Hopton Court are fighting against plans to build a large student accommodation block which will overshadow their homes, the branch was officially launched in September.Hulme has a tradition of tenant unions some members were originally in the Hulme Tenants Alliance.

The branch are famous for their Hopton Court BBQs, and have regular branch meetings in The Old Abbey Tap House. They are concentrating on member defence and building the branch through leafleting and outreach.
