Born out of the Block the Block campaign, where residents of Hopton Court are fighting against plans to build a large student accommodation block which will overshadow their homes, the branch was officially launched in September. Hulme has a tradition of tenant unions some members were originally in the Hulme Tenants Alliance.

The branch are concentrating on member defence and building the branch through leafleting and outreach.
